Director, Latin America
Simon Retallack has 18 years’ experience of leading initiatives addressing environmental issues in a variety of roles. He is currently Director for Latin America at the Carbon Trust, overseeing the Carbon Trust’s offices in Mexico and Brazil, and managing projects and the development of new business across the region, including Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Cuba and Peru. At the Carbon Trust, Simon has led a number of high profile engagements for government clients on the development of low carbon strategy, policy and delivery programmes. Previously he was head of an award-winning team working on climate policy at the Institute for Public Policy Research, working at a senior level with Ministers and CEOs. Simon has extensive project experience in the UK and across Latin America. He is a member of the board of Carbon Trust Mexico and a trustee of the New Economics Foundation.
Director, Carbon Trust Mexico
Soffia leads our work with governments and businesses in Mexico, and provides support to our initiatives across Latin America. She is currently leading the expansion of the Low Carbon States programme following successful pilots working with the state governments of Jalisco and Tabasco. Soffia was previously Director for Climate Change Mitigation at Mexico’s Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), where she was responsible for the design and implementation of the National Emissions Register and other public policy and planning instruments related to carbon pricing, MRV and climate change. Soffia has a master’s degree in Public Administration and Environmental Policy from Columbia University in New York and a degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México. She is a member of the programme in Advanced Studies on Environment and Sustainable Development (LEAD-Mexico) at El Colegio de México.
Senior Manager, Carbon Trust México
Arturo has more than eight years of experience in technology management, financial infrastructure and sustainability and has worked in the business, development banking, and academic sectors while interacting with non-profit and public sector organisations. Prior to joining the Carbon Trust, he collaborated with international institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the German Development Bank KfW, where he participated in the design, planning, and implementation of sustainable housing programs. He also collaborated in the development of methodologies and software tools for assessing sustainability criteria in housing projects. Previously, Arturo worked at the Mexican Stock Exchange in operations and securities settlement. He holds a Master’s Degree in Technology Policy with a specialization in Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge, and an honours degree in Industrial Engineering from ITAM.
Adriana works in the Innovation team at the Carbon Trust, where she provides incubation support to a range of clean technology start-ups and SMEs to help them commercialise their technology. Adriana has worked with the governments of Mexico and Colombia to help them prioritise low carbon technologies and to identify the right policies to unlock the deployment of these technologies. She has worked with the Climate Technology Centre & Network, the operational arm of the UNFCCC mechanism, as part of a secondment at the United Nations where she supported the centre’s main operations and provided technical assistance at the request of developing countries. Adriana holds a triple MSc degree in Management of Energy and Environment from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, University of Nantes in France, and Polytechnic University of Madrid in Spain. She also holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico.
Alessandro specialises in climate change mitigation and low carbon energy policy development. At the Carbon Trust, Alessandro has led project work streams on renewable energy and energy efficiency, advising governments on energy policy and programme development. He has successfully delivered several projects in Latin America ranging from the design of large scale energy efficiency programmes (Brazil, Peru), techno-economic analysis of policy incentives for renewable energy (Colombia, Brazil), technology innovation prioritisation (Mexico, UK), market sizing studies (Vietnam, UK). Prior to joining the Carbon Trust, Alessandro worked as an energy consultant for the World Bank and as a research analyst at both IDC and Equilibri - the Journal of Geopolitics and International Relations.
Associate Director, Strategy & Business Development, Latin America
Daniel has over 13 years of international experience working with public and private institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank, United Nations, and the Insurance Deposit of Colombia. In the private sector Daniel worked at KPMG and as an entrepreneur. Since joining the Carbon Trust in London, he has worked on projects in Colombia, Chile, Panamá, and Cuba. Daniel’s areas of expertise are energy finance and energy policy. He received a BSc in Industrial Engineering in Bogotá, a Master’s degree in Public Administration in New York, and an Executive MBA in London.
Associate Director, Innovation
David leads the Carbon Trust’s incubation support to clean tech ventures. He has advised more than 50 clean tech ventures on how to grow. He also provides strategic advice to climate innovation centres internationally. David has over a decade of technology commercialisation and infrastructure project experience for clients including the UK Government, GE, and World Bank. Before joining the Carbon Trust, David worked in a start-up venture developing clean tech projects in developing countries. He has Law and Arts degrees from Canterbury University and an MSc in Environmental Change and Management from Oxford University.
Consultant, Business Services
Marta has 10 years’ experience in developing and implementing sustainability and optimisation projects, having been directly responsible for significant reductions in energy and resource consumption while working for Procter & Gamble. At the Carbon Trust she helps companies analyse their opportunities in managing and improving resource efficiency. Her sector experience includes FMCGs, manufacturing and new technologies. She has played a key role in developing the Carbon Trust Standard for Supply Chain. Marta has a MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London.
Director of Footprinting
Martin is one of the world’s leading authorities on product and value chain footprinting. He was instrumental in the development of the PAS 2050 footprinting standard, developing the guidance for the GHG Protocol’s Scope 3 Standard, and creating/advising on international footprinting schemes. Over the last 10 years he has overseen a wide range of projects to help companies derive business benefit from understanding and optimising their products and value-chains. Prior to this he spent 20 years in the automotive sector, managing $100m+ projects in manufacturing, design, commercial, IT and business re-engineering.
Managing Director, Implementation Services
Myles McCarthy is Director of Implementation at Carbon Trust, leading our energy efficiency services in the UK and internationally, enabling the implementation of cost effective energy saving initiatives across industrial and commercial sectors. These services include energy efficiency financing (including a £550M fund delivered with Siemens Financial Services), implementation advice and equipment supplier accreditation. A Chartered Accountant, Myles’ early career was spent at KPMG in London where he worked with early stage technology businesses on their establishment, development, fund raising and growth. Myles studied for his first degree in Applied Physics at the University of Durham.
Paul is an experienced programme manager for energy efficiency and carbon management initiatives with government, public and private sector organisations, including programmes with State and Municipal governments in Mexico. He has led the development and delivery of a range of programmes to provide independent, impartial advice and support on carbon management, energy and resource efficiency, and renewable energy, enabling hundreds of organisations in the business, public and third sectors to saves costs and carbon emissions.
Account Director, Business Services
Silvana has a strong background in sustainability, project management and international business. Silvana leads our business development of the Carbon Trust’s international footprinting business working with corporates around the world on environmental footprinting, certification and eco-labelling strategies. She has helped businesses to identify operational improvements, reduce costs and enhance their brand reputation. Fluent in Spanish and English, Silvana holds a degree in Communication Science from Universidad de Lima, an MBA from Birmingham University and a Diploma on Climate Change Science, Impact and Responses from Imperial College.
